How to Eat According to Your Dosha?
Doshas are the energies formed from the five elements water, earth, air, ether, and fire. There are three doshas formed by the combination of two elements each, and they are Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. And according to Ayurveda, each individual has a dominant dosha that governs their physical and mental processes. Besides, it is considered that an imbalance in the dosha leads to diseases. So before taking any ayurvedic treatments or medicines, it is crucial to identify your body type or dominant dosha. You can easily find your dosha by consulting an ayurvedic doctor. For example, if you live in Sydney, you can get a list of ayurvedic doctors there by searching “ayurvedic doctors consultation Sydney”.
An ayurvedic diet mainly focuses on balancing the doshas and thus helps maintain proper health. It varies for different Ayurveda body types. So an ayurvedic diet is customized based on your requirements. For an ayurvedic diet to be effective, it is recommended to incorporate certain lifestyle changes involving ayurvedic practices into your life. However, make sure you visit a certified and experienced ayurvedic practitioner beforehand.
An ayurvedic diet suggested for one individual may not be suitable for another. It is because everyone has a unique body constitution, and Ayurveda takes it into consideration when advising dietary changes. And here is how to eat according to your dosha.
Vata Dosha
Vata dosha is considered to be the combination of air and ether. Hence, a person with Vata body type may exhibit characteristics associated with those elements. They tend to be light in weight, cool, and may experience dryness. If you have a Vata body, eat foods that are cooked with oil, warm, moist, and spiced. Also, include grains, fresh fruits, and dairy in your diet. Salty or sour foods that are warm or moisturizing can also be included. You may drink warm herbal teas regularly as well. However, try avoiding caffeinated drinks.
Pitta Dosha
Pitta is considered to be made of fire and water. And those with Pitta dosha as the dominant dosha tend to be oily, hot, volatile, and so on. They may experience conditions like gastrointestinal problems, allergies, ulcers, etc. If your dominant dosha is Pitta, you may go for mildly spiced and cooling foods. Moreover, including fruits, vegetables, and grains in your diet is beneficial as well. Though dairy products are good for Pitta, they should not be mixed with fruits when consumed. Generally, foods with sweet, bitter, astringent tastes and foods that are cooling and soothing are suggested for Pitta dosha.
Kapha Dosha
Kapha dosha, which is made of earth and water, determines the structure of the body. Individuals with dominant Kapha dosha are primarily characterized by their large and broad body frames. If you fall under the Kapha body type, consume pungent, astringent, and bitter foods since they help balance Kapha. Furthermore, eat light, dry, and warm foods, and consume grains minimally. Cow dairy should be avoided, whereas small amounts of goat dairy can be consumed. And when consuming grains, choose grains that are lighter and high in fibers.
